Jason Gonsalves is the owner of Caveman Creative.

Passion and education

Jason’s artistic journey began with the early encounter with an Olympus Tough camera. Enraptured by the medium, Jason began an autodidact, extensive education, exploring the techniques, history, visual literacy and endless artistic opportunities of photography. Wanting to brush his passion against that of fellow artists, Jason completed a professional Postgraduate Certificate in Photography. This education confirmed his professional drive and comforted his self-taught skills, while refining his personal style. With more than fifteen years of experience, Jason gives Caveman Creative its artistic backbone.

The edge effect

Jason’s artistic focus is the search for the precise time and place where two paradigms interact. His photographic practice is akin to meditation, a cultivation of being in the present moment. Everything has its importance: the multisensory connection with the camera. The unique interaction between subject and environment. The moment when the unseen becomes perceptible, when the lines and shapes tell of the subject’s soul. The volatile interfaces between light and darkness. The authentic encounter between human beings, the trust and openness necessary to create art that is real.
Merging art and documentation, conservation of cultural heritage with state-of-the- art technology, Jason is dedicated to providing an experience beyond the image: an authentic memory, shaped in a work of art.

Living in the beautiful Great Southern of Western Australia with his wife, Jason has started taking steps towards a more ethical and sustainable lifestyle. He volunteers his art to support environmental conservation and permaculture projects, and actively researches and shares solutions to lessen photography’s environmental impact.
